Solon, Ohio · a chapter of Bike Cleveland

A Solon built for people, not just cars.

We are an all-volunteer group of neighbors working to make Solon's streets safe, connected, and welcoming to ride, from kids pedaling to school to riders headed for the trail.

Bike With a Mayor · Solon, OH

Solon is a great place to live. It should be a safe place to ride, too.

Bike Solon is the Solon chapter of Bike Cleveland, the region's nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization. We are volunteers, not staff: neighbors who ride these roads, raise our kids here, and want cycling in Solon to be safe, legal, and welcoming for everyone.

That means showing up: at City Hall for public comment, on the road for community rides, and at the table whenever a decision affects how people get around Solon without a car. Small chapter, specific work, real results.

Quick safety checks

Simple habits that make a real difference, taught by a League Certified Cycling Instructor.

Before you roll

ABC Quick Check

  • Air: tires are firm, no cuts or excess wear
  • Brakes: pads aren't worn, levers engage firmly
  • Cranks & chain: cranks don't wobble, chain is clean and lubed
  • Quick releases: wheels and seatpost are closed and tight
  • Check: a slow test ride before you're really riding

Every time, every rider

Proper helmet fit

  • Level: sits flat, about two finger-widths above your eyebrows
  • Snug: side straps form a V just below each ear
  • Buckled: chin strap snug, one finger between strap and chin
  • Test: shake your head, the helmet shouldn't shift

Know your rights on the road

Three things every Solon rider should know

3 ft ORC 4511.27

Ohio drivers must give you at least three feet when passing. That space is the law, and it's yours.

Take the lane ORC 4511.55(C)

You only ride as far right as is safe. Potholes, grates, debris, or a parked car? You may take more of the lane.

Ride like traffic ORC 4511.52

On the road, a bike has the same rights and duties as a car: ride with the flow of traffic, stop at signs and lights. Predictable riding is safe riding.

"I made the goal to ride every street in Solon before the end of the year. I just finished last weekend. It was a great way to really see my city."

Who's running this

Meet the board

Bike Solon is entirely volunteer-run. Right now, that's one person wearing every hat. Here's who's actually showing up.

Chapter President · LCI #7283

Mike Walker

Mike rides it all: century rides, gravel, BMX, and bike parks. He's a League Certified Cycling Instructor, and he's the one who actually shows up, delivering public comment on the three-foot passing law and lane position, pressing the city on the SOM Center Road safety corridor, and pushing the single-file ordinance repeal until it's actually repealed. When he's not at a council meeting, he's just as likely elbow-deep in a repair stand.

Open seats

The board grows when the right people show up. See the open roles below: communications, event organizing, or just a hand at the next ride.
